sweet rice or waxy rice) is a type of rice grown mainly in Southeast and East Asia, Northeastern India and Bhutan which has opaque grains, very low amylose content, and is especially sticky when cooked. It is widely consumed across Asia.
Sticky, or “glutinous,” rice has been growing in mainland Southeast Asia for at least 4,000 years. Historians debate whether ancient farmers grew sticky rice because it was suited to local growing conditions or because they liked its taste and chewy texture.
This delicious rice dish is actually originally persian, where zard means bright yellow colour. However, the recipe has been hugely embraced within the indian subcontinent and also has many variations in Pakistan, so feel free to add or take away any nuts or dried fruits to your preference.
